Suggest Remedy For Chronic Constipation And Vomiting

default
Posted on Tue, 1 Dec 2015
Question: Lately i have had epispodeys where i vomit while having a bowel movement. i have chronic constipation and this happens when im finally able to go. Stool is useually soft and paste like. i dont have much luck with oral meds, extra fiber or prescription drugs like Linzess. i use ducolax suppositories. sometimes Ill have weeks where bowel movements are normal and then this happens for months. recently had gallbladder out and then was hospitalized for pancrearitis a day after the surgery (don't drink alcohol and am a vegetarian). now it is even harder to eat, feel full like food is laying in my stomach which has made the vomiting while having a bowel movement occur more often. i truly feel like im in a downward health spiral.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking on HCM!
I read carefully all your concerns and I can say as follows:

1. You are reporting to have chronic constipation altered with weeks were bowel movement are normal. These symptoms are related with IBS with chronic constipation.

2. Nausea or vomiting while you have a bowel movement is usually due to an incompetent lower esophageal sphincter which causes reflux on pressure or exertion during a bowel movement especially during constipation episodes. This is why I suggest to do upper endoscopy to better evaluate esophageal sphyncter. However, this can also be due to Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

3. With regards to your recently health situation, it is normal that after gallbladder surgery and especially pancreatitis to have nausea ,vomiting
and sick stomach.

Meantime I suggest to:
- eat often and small amount of meal
- avoid fatty and sugar foods
- have a liquid diet
- use PPI 's like Prilosec OTC
- use pancreatic enzymes like Creon to improve food digestion.
- use anti-emetic drugs

4.After you have recovered from your recent situation, to avoid constipation I would recommend to:
- take plenty of water 2-3 lt per day
- use olive oil three teaspoons per day
- use vegetables and fruits
- use kiwi, prune
- use stool softeners
- increase physical activity
- avoid unnecessary stress

Hope it was helpful to you!
