Suggest Remedy For Chronic Constipation

Question: my stools are very scratchy and sometimes hard. I eat a lot of fiber during my day. I do have a daily movement. will Miralax help me. How much and when. My bowl movements are usually In the early morning. I need to soften my stools.

Chronic constipation in an adult is likely to be due to following
1. Low fibre diet
2. Decreased intake of water
3. Presence of lesion of anus and rectum

I would suggest you the following

1. Plenty of oral fluids: 2-3 liter of water a day
2. High fibre diet: 2 servings of vegetable salad and fruits everyday especially citrus fruits will be helpful
3. Oral Laxatives like Lactulose
4. Regular exercise: Regular exercise like 30 minutes of brisk walking is known to promote bowel movements
5. Avoid constipating diet like excessive refined sugar, refined wheat flour, biscuits, cookies
