Suggest Remedy For Coarse Facial Hair

Posted on Mon, 27 Oct 2014
Question: Dear Doctor,
I have a very dense and coarse beard and it grows in 2 days and I have to shave it almost every couple of days. Is it possible to reduce to density of beard hair, or to make the hair little softer?
I use the best quality shaving cream and the best quality razor, both from Gillette, but my shave is very less often clean and close and always have some or the other hair left out.
I shave in all the directions, straight and reverse of the direction of the hair, but it's not close. Also tried applying some moisturiser for whole night but didn't help much.
What can I do?

Solution for coarse facial hair

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to healthacermagic

I am Dr. kakkar. I have gone through your query and I have understood it.

You have 2 options. You can either opt for Laser hair reduction or you may use a cream containing eflornithine hydrochloride 13.9%.

Laser hair reduction is an acceptable option either if you are willing to go for a completely beardless look Or you may also go for less then a complete beardless look. The second option would make your hair less dense, soft and finer. The laser commonly used for this purpose is either Diode Laser Or Nd:YAG Laser.

Another option is in the form of Eflornithine hydrochloride 13.9% available as a cream which slows the rate of hair growth as it inhibits hair metabolism. This only slows the rate of hair growth so the result would be that you may feel the need to shave less frequently but it would not make the hair finer, though some do claim that it makes the hair finer too. The effect is appreciable after 4-6 weeks of regular use and is as long as you use it.

I would suggest you to visit a dermatologist or a cosmetic laser clinic in your region and inquire further.

Regards
