Suggest Remedy For Depression Post Recovery From Jaundice

Question: Sir. I had jaundice In feb i recoverd completly .but fell into deprresion doctor refered clonezapalm and anothe medicine naming restan 12:5 mg from last two months clonezapalm dose is 0.5 mg have to take alternatively means and restan every day .i went to doctor today he prescribe same for 1 Month when i asked how long the treatment will be he said 1 Year .i was happy before going to doctor today but as he replied 1 Year it seems i am again falling into depression . Some one please help i dont kno what to do?

I understand your concerns.

Most of the treatment guidelines for depression suggest that treatment of depression to be continued for atleast 6 months after complete recovery of symptoms (in case of first episode of depression).

This is important to minimize the chances of relapse in future.

However, the duration will obviously depend on how your symptoms respond. Its not always 1 year.

So, I would advice you to continue the treatment as advised by your doctor.
Please do not worry about the duration of treatment. Its for your good.

clonazepam has to be used only for short term.

Dear,
Clonazepam is not to be taken for one year.

It is to be discontinued when your sleep and anxiety problem are resolved.
Then it is gradually discontinued within one month.

This will prevent you from becoming dependent.

So, do not worry.

Thats what i am worried about i on clonezapalm dose from last 3 months firstlt it was .25 Mg Every day for 15days then i went to psychiatrist He prescribed .75 mg every day now my current psychiatirsis Treated With 0.5 Mg per day for 7 days then alternetively for 20 Days today he said repeat the same for 1 Months so i m worried that i could became dependent

Well, I differ in opinion from what your psychiatrist has prescribed.

If you have no anxiety and normal sleep pattern, I think your dose of clonazepam should have been reduced.

You must discuss this with your doctor and request him to reduce the dose gradually.

Never alter your doses without discussing with your treating doctor.

Sir i went to him and asked to reduce the dose he said u will have to go on with clonezapalm or u treat urself .he dont hear me .i said i m normal sir please get me out of this medicine he replied go treat urself

I think this is slightly rude on your doctor's part.

Anyhow, you can take a second opinion from another psychiatrist.

Clonazepam is reduced gradually.
For you, it could be reduced to 0.5mg after every 2 days, then 0.5mg after every 3 days and so on.

But supervision of your local doctor is must.
A second opinion is better if your earlier doctor is not willing to listen to you.

Sir my second medicine is esctilopam oxalate 10 Mg daily what about it can i go cold turkey for this med?sir do u have any doctor recommendation in lucknow?

escitalopram is safe.

Escitalopram is a good drug for depression.
I would not advice you to quit it abruptly due to risk of relapse of depression.
Also, its a safe and nonaddictive drug.
