Posted on Fri, 13 Feb 2015
Question: I HAVE BEEN ON PRESCRIBED ZOPLICONE SINCE JULY 24/14 BUT HAVE ONLY BEEN TAKING HALF OF A 7.5 MG TABLET EVERY NIGHT AND IT HAS BEEN HELPING ME SLEEP. DURING THIS PERIOD MY MEMORY HAS BEEN DETERIORATING BADLY.LAST NIGHT IT DIDNT HELP ME SLEEP SO I DID SOME ZOPLICONE RESEARCH AND LEARNED OF MY UNINTENTIONAL OVERDOSING. I WILL SLOWLY TAKE MYSELF OFF IT BUT WANT TO KNOW IF MY MEMORY WILL IMPROVE TO MY HISTORICAL NORMAL OR WILL POOR MEMORY SURVIVE ?

I PLAN TO REDUCE MY DOSE TO 3.75 MG EVERY SECOND NIGHT FOR ABOUT 3 DOSES, THEN EVERY THIRD NITE, THEN EVERY FOURTH THEN STOP COMPLETELY----DO YOU AGREE WITH MY PLAN OR PREFER TO MAKE ANOTHER SUGGESTION.

Brief Answer:
Yes this is the right way

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query.
I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through.
Zopiclone can cause amnesia - or say memory loss. Its a known side-effect of this medicine. But you would be happy to know that it is reversible and will recover in 2-3 weeks after stopping medicine. The dosage you were using is not abnormal. Its used in the dosage that you are using. But the duration has been quite large.
Coming to the withdrawal, the technique mentioned by you is appropriate. You may make it every second day and also reduce it further to every third day and then you can stop it. You need not proceed to the final step of every fourth day.
Follow the below mentioned steps for a good sleep.:
1) Have some aerobic workouts during day preferably in the morning.
2) Have a light dinner.
3) Completely avoid coffee/tea/alcohol/energy drinks/coke/smoking.
4) Have a warm water bath before going to sleep.
5) Dont try very hard to go to sleep. If you are not sleepy then sit on a couch or sofa and do some reading and go to the bed only when you are sleepy.
6) Avoid watching tv or working on laptop/computer or bright screens at night.
7) Keep the lighting of your bedroom dim and make your bed every morning after you wake up so that you get a cozy bed to sleep at night.
8) Use your bedroom only for sleeping and resting and do not do any other work there.
9) Avoid afternoon nap for any reason.
Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
