Suggest Remedy For Diarrhea And Vomiting

default
Posted on Tue, 18 Aug 2015
Question: Last week I was fatigued ... used quite a bit of mass transportation ... Sunday I came down with diarrhea, vomiting and no fever. Took medication to stop diarrhea on Monday, have taken in minimal liquids and lost 6 pounds of water weight. Both vomiting and diarrhea have stopped but I now am fatigued and have a 99.6 fever. I did not have a fever for the past two days I had accompanying headache. Should I see a doctor or does this sound like things are moving along? Why do I have a fever after the other symptoms?

Brief Answer:
it could be a viral infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

vomiting and diarrhea usually suggest gastroenteritis. Gastroenteritis can be caused by food toxins, viruses and bacteria. Bacterial gastroenteritis is commonly associated with higher fever and food toxins do not generally cause fever. So a viral infection is the most likely cause.

Imodium should not be used when fever is present or when there's blood in the stool. You didn't have a high fever but you'd better avoid using it.

You should also try to increase the consumption of fluids to avoid dehydration and kidney problems.

Since vomiting has ceased, you're probably improving. You can wait for another 24 hours to see what happens unless the symptoms reappear or new symptoms occur.
