Should I be rushing to have it removed? Is it ok to go on my holiday for a week? Could This be a mole that I accidently scratched in my sleep? Do you think it's melanoma?
Brief Answer:
Get it reviewed and biopsied
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
You should definitely get it reviewed, after a week, if not now. It could be a dysplastic nevus or a melanoma.

I went to my family dr and she was referring me to have it removed. The place she's sending me to is booking 3 months away. I'm wondering if I should be finding a different dr that can do something sooner! Atypical mole can wait until october right? Melanoma can't. I did clean the area 3 days ago with peroxide thinking it was just an infected mole. Could that have made my mole worse?
Brief Answer:
Either a dysplastic nevus or melanoma would only be known on biopsy
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Whether an atypical/ dysplastic mole or an early melanoma; it should be excisied and put under the microscope and it would be known then for sure.
I can't comment on such a long waiting time.
A peroxide can irritate a mole with broken skin/ ulceration but it does'nt change anything as to what the approach should be for a recently changed nevus/ mole.

Thank you so much for responding. I was having a panic moment, as to whether I should wait for the october appt or see a new dr. I have an appt at the end of this month. I have compared my mole to other melanoma moles online and it doesn't look the same. I keep thinking it's just a scratched mole and to calm down, or is it a fast growing melanoma.
Brief Answer:
You can look for other options rather than waiting for 3 months
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Of course there is no need to panic.
It is a suspicious mole not a confirmed melanoma as yet. It may turn out to be a dysplastic nevus Or Melanoma in situ Or as you say, just a normal mole that you probably scratched.
Appointment at end of month is not too far. Let me know how it goes.
Enjoy your holiday

Here it is
Brief Answer:
Get it reviewed and do let me know what your doctor says
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thank you. I have reviewed the Image.
Though, surface ulceration seems to have healed, however, a portion which ulcerated (July 7 pic) looks a bit different in color than the rest.
The healed portion seems to have lost its normal color i.e is lighter/ hypopigmented. Varying shades of color e.g white, red, gray, blue etc within the same mole is of course suspicious.
Also the fact that it ulcerated recently itself calls for a detailed examination with a dermoscope Or a Biopsy.
In my view, there is sufficient evidence that things are not alright with this mole and it is trying to change.

Oh no. I see the dr tomorrow. I thought maybe the mole was healing. I also thought only half was lighter because I may have scratched it in my sleep? I did notice when I took the photo that there was some discoloration, but was hoping I was just seeing things. The mole is so small, only 3-4mm. My mole has lightened up overall compared to the rest of my moles. Is the ulceration what small hole in the middle?
Brief Answer:
'Ugly duckling sign' should always arouse suspicion
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
A mole that looks different from the rest of body moles ("Ugly Duckling sign") should definitely arouse suspicion.
A benign mole is of uniform color whereas a suspicious looking mole may have different colors. A mole is unlikely to lose its color by scratching alone.
A mole which is less than 5 mm in size is usually benign but one cannot ignore other changes like ulceration, color vareigation even in a smaller mole (<5 mm).
In Images, this mole looks slightly depressed in the center i.e has a crater like appearance, which is the result of ulceration and subsequent fibrosis.

The dr didn't seem too concerned. He said it could wait until october, but because I'm anxious he will remove it next week. He said change and color aren't great things in a mole, which I'm aware of. He seemed kind of calm about it. He did say it needed to be excised.
Brief Answer:
Excision is a wise decision
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
A mole that is changing and looks different than other moles should be excised sooner than later.
It is a wise decision to excise it by next week.
