Question: My 3 year old granddaughter had her rectum exposed when she pushed to have a bowel movement , when she was a baby. Tests were done and everything turned out fine. However now she has small multiple bowel movements and seems to be uncomfortable when having them. They are generally soft but one stool at a time. Could this be related to the problem with her rectum when she was a year old? She went to specialists at Children's hospital in XXXXXXX MI, and was there for 5 days, having tests run.

Brief Answer:
May not be related to the rectal prolapse in the past.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.
Read and understood the history related to your Granddaughter. It looks that she had a rectal prolapse on pushing for bowel movements when she was just one year old that got corrected.
Now she has got small frequent bowel movements with a feeling of being uncomfortable at that time. Stool is soft but one stool at a time.

This does not look to be related to the old problems.
This may just be a sub-clinical intestinal infection/colitis. (if the rectal prolapse is not visible).

Proper clinical evaluation, examination and investigations including a per-rectal examination if need be will help to get a diagnosis. These also include investigations of hte blood, urine and stool.

With proper treatment she should be cured.
Please post the reports of the investigations if you have.

I hope this answer helps you, please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you need to or if you feel that there is a gap-of-communication.

With best wishes for the child and regards for you.
