Question: I am a 58 year old women, weighing around120lbs, 5't5" tall, I take Karveside for high blood pressure. I have been diagnosed with sports induced asthma so use ventolin prior to exercise. I keep myself fit with running and playing netball. Over he last couple of months I have been feeling quite fatigued, heavy in the arms. When I play sport I am ok if just jogging slowly but if I try to run I loose my breath badly, my recovery is really slow and I experience dizziness and a feeling of faintness. I also feel like I can't continue my exercise. Can you help me with a few options of what might be happening to me. Three months ago I was fit and healthy and bursting with energy. Thankyou

Brief Answer:
Kindly read my detailed answer.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX Welcome to HCM.
I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Fatigue and breathlessness during exertion can be due to following reasons in your case.
-Uncontrolled hypertension during walking.
-Exacerbation of Asthma.
-It may be a dysfunction of heart.
-low hemoglobin(anemia) may be presented with this symptoms.

So, my advice to you is -

1. Kindly ask your doctor to do your 24 hrs blood pressure monitoring. It will give your doctor proper idea regarding how much is your blood pressure during exercise and walking.

2.Also do your 2d echo study which will give your doctor an idea about pumping and relaxation of heart . If any dysfunction will be found then it can be treated.

3.Try to take ventolin puffs before your walking or exercise and just watch how much is the relief. After exercise just visit your doctor directly, do that he can examine your lungs and can rule out Exacerbation of Asthma.

4.Do CBC, lipid profile, thyroid profile, Blood sugar levels. As thyroid, diabetes and anemia all can cause breathlessness.

So, we have multiple causes for the symptoms which can be diagnosed by a single visit to doctor and following my guidance.

If you have any other questions you are always welcome.
Thank you.
Have a nice day.
