Suggest Remedy For Endometrial Thickness And Heavy Periods
Question: I am 45 years old and have had five children. My first baby was a c-section and the last 4 were vaginal births. All were big babies between 9 and 10lbs. My oldest is 18 and my youngest is 10 years old. I had my annual gyn visit and she sent me for a ultrasound because she thought my uterus felt slightly enlarged. The ultrasound showed my uterus was 8.7 cm wide and thickening. To be on the safe side she wants to do a endometrial biopsy. My periods are regular and last about 4-5 days. The first day to day and half my period is heavy but then quickly tapers off. I am nervous and not sure if because of my history this is normal. Could u please explain? I had the ultrasound today and I am day 13 in my cycle. Thank you

Endometrial biopsy
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to healthcare magic.
Your uterine size on ultrasound sound is normal for your age.
Especial when you don't have any symptoms there is nothing to worry.
Your doctor has advised endometrial biopsy as a screening tool to rule out endometrial cancer or hypertrophy. You can undergo same as it is a minor procedure and result will be normal.
Endometrial biopsy in your case is a screening procedure. Dont worry

I am wondering if the thickeng of my uterus is something I should be concerned about? Could it be thicker because it is around the time I ovulate? Also, do the c-section and multiple births cause thickening? I sent this question earlier and did not get a response. Thank you
I know you are busy but I am concerned about my last question regarding the thickening of my uterus. Will someone be able to respond to me soon? Thank you

Brief Answer:
Thickening of uterus
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thickening of uterus in you is not associated with your cesarean section, ovulation, or number of deliveries.
Your uterine width about 8 cms is not a concern and no need to be worried about.
At your age this is normal finding and there is nothing to be worried about.

My uterus measured 8.7cm and she said it was thick therefore she wanted to do a endometrial biopsy. What would cause the thickness then?
Brief Answer:
Age
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
The cause of thickness could be fibroid or adenomyosis. But both are not mentioned on ultrasound. Hence it could be age related.
With age the thickness increases in some women. This is just an age related thing.Endometrial biopsy is just a screening measure as I explained before.

Hi again, I had my endometrial biopsy this morning and my doctor said she was not concerned about the size of my uterus but rather the thickening. She said they like to see it around 10 and mine was 15. I still get my periods regularly and feel a little pain when ovulating. Only 1 day is a heavy when I start my period and it ends 4-5 days later. Also, I was day 13 in my cycle when I had the ultra sound and she said it usually isn't that thick yet. She did say that does happen to some women. What are your thoughts? Thank you!
