Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for your query under HCM forum.
Child, an apple of every bodies eye in house.. when suffers from some problem, it's natural for parents to be concerned. I understand your feelings.
The diaper rash follows improper management of the diapers/ use of improper diapers. Soiling the area with motion/urine./wetness as well as warmness of the covered area many a times results in secondary infection of the by fungus )of the diaper rash.
* Treatment- The Eumosone M is a perfect ointment for the condition,( provided there are no pustules/infection by bacteria of the rash.In such a condition antibiotic ointment is added to the prescription.) It contains beta methasone ( to treat allergy/ inflammation )& Flucanozole (it's an anti fungal medicine.) Your doctor has advised proper ointment. Use it & Be in touch with him.
- Usually ointment & proper home care suffices to clear the infection.
- In non responding infections oral antifungals/ antibiotics can be advised by pediatricians.
* However just application of ointment is not sufficient to cure it. This is time to learn few basic methods of care of a diaper using baby.
* Home care-It includes( Diaper Hygiene)
- changing of diaper frequently( two hourly) to avoid soiling of baby's skin making it wet, irritated. This helps flourishing of fungi in the rash.
Alternatively diapers with highly absorbent property can be used- these avoid keeping the area wet.
Latest diapers with extra absorbent property & administering petrolatum formulation in between to keep the skin healthy.
Breathing diapers allow air circulation & avoid damp skin.
- Avoid cleaning with cotton/ damp cloth. This causes rubbing of the skin.getting it irritated & forming rash.
Instead it advised to clean urine area with warm water / anal part washed with warm water & non irritant soap- mop the skin dry & apply talcum powder/ ointment( at present)or a dot of moisturizer before fresh diaper is put..
- Avoid tight fitting diapers- this may cause irritation/friction & rash.
- The diaper covered skin should be left open for some time before applying fresh one.
** I would advise you to continue with the ointment application along with home care . In present condition the skin must be kept open as far as possible with selective use of diaper. This will allow early recovery.
Please don't worry, the rash should show improvement within 2-3 days. Still you have to continue application of ointment till it goes completely & a few days after that also.
Maintaining proper diaper hygiene is to be followed through out the time till the diapers are being used.
I hope, you find the answer both informative & useful. Any follow up query is welcome.
Thank you XXXX.
