If i do go to the doctor, what can i expect?
USG / CT / FNAC
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your specific query and an elucidate history.
To recapitulate:
44 /F - Endoscopy 3 weeks ago - lump in the neck since then (3 weeks ?) - apprehensive about jugular -
Hope this is unrelated to Endoscopy : Yes this is unrelated to Endoscopy as it was normal and if perforation during the endoscopy would have occurred, it would have been an emergency and not the lump of such a long duration.
What can you expect if you go to the Doctor:
First of all a proper clinical history and physical examination by a Surgeon can give a clinical impression whether this is a lymph node mass or something else. This is most probably a lymph node mass as the abscess would have enlarged or opened up by this time.
You will be advised to have relevant blood, urine test.
Most important is the ultrasonography and / or CT scan as per the preference of your Doctor to study the extent of the lump.
Yest better way is to have ultrasonography guided (to give the exact location where to put-in the needle) FNAC (Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology) which would give a perfect diagnosis in most of the cases, hence reducing the necessity of actual Biopsy. I hope you may not need any Surgery for the biopsy at the moment.
Once the final diagnosis is done, the treatment will be guided as per the reports.
I was just wondering the reason of a red-spot in the picture. Is it due to tried popping or FNAC ?
I hope I have tried to give you reasonable answer to help you to get a proper final diagnosis so that a proper treatment can be instituted. Try to do this ASAP as this is already three weeks.
Please feel free to ask for further if you need any further clarification or if you feel there is a gap-of-communication.

Panless procedure.
Detailed Answer:
It is OK for now, but please do not pop it again.
The long form of FNAC is Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology. This is a very small painless procedure, wherein a fine needle is put in the mass, just aspirated and the contents are spread on the slide to be sent to the laboratory.
So do not worry. This is practically painless procedure and gives great information in most of the cases.
