Suggest Remedy For Infection After Getting A Tattoo

Question: Hi, I just recently got a tattoo. I'm hyperaware about blood infections, and I know it's not that bad... yet. I just want to make sure it's going to be fine. I have gotten any redness to shrink around the area. However once it got about a centimeter or less away from the tattoo, or any skin within, the redness got darker. It IS warm to the touch, and there is some scabbing, but when I press on the redness, it goes white, then returns, so I'm thinking more irritation than infection. Do you have any suggestions on how to deal with it? I changed from neosporin to bacitracin, and have been using Aquaphor, but bought some A & d ointment today. I've been icing it some as well. I'm just trying to avoid infection at all costs.

Brief Answer:
For how long has this tattoo been?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these signs and symptoms that you have reported following this tattoo. I have reviewed the image and the information fully. This is suggestive of a soft tissue infection called cellulitis and to a lesser extend hyperemic kin reaction. Treatment of cellulitis consists in administering oral antibiotics. The most commonly used is amoxicillin.

I will advice that you stop applying all the topical ointments. They would not make a great difference to this. Also, they could be responsible for the irritation that is responsible for the redness and signs of inflammation that you have reported.

In all, suggestive of cellulitis or hyperemic reaction. Visit a doctor to make the difference and prescribe the necessary treatment. Stop topical ointments for now.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
