Suggest Remedy For Intussusception In Children

Question: My grandson is 2 years old and had indeception(?) where his large intestines are twisted into their smaller intestines. Went to Childrens and air was blown up his rectum to untangle. It worked! Since, he has been throwing up, high fever of 104. He has had ultra sounds showing that it worked; however his smaller bowels are inside of his smaller intestines, which goes in and out. He has not had a CAT scan yet. The blood work shows that his white blood cells are high, which the doc said could be because he has a virus. I don't believe that is the only thing going on. For the past 2 days, he is still throwing up, has not had a bowel movement and is not interested in anything except sleeping - he has been awake a total of 5 hours for the past 2 days and very lethargic. What more could be going on? Should we ask for more blood work - demand a CAT scan? He normally is a very active 2 year old. Any suggestions you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Brief Answer:
Get ultrasound again
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
Your grandson has had intussusception. This has been relieved after the procedure.
No need to worry. As mentioned the fever could be due to viral infection.
However sometimesintussusception can re occur again.
That could cause persistent fever and throwing up.
I suggest you to get ultrasound abdomen as soon as possible.
It will definitely indicate if there is a re occurrence.
CAT scan may not be required unless ultrasound is not helpful.
Wishing your grandson speedy recovery.

Dr Arun

An ultrasound was done again 2 days later that is how we found out the bowel was inside his smaller intestines; however it the procedure did in fact work, but doctors said sometimes that causes pain. Doctors mentioned having appendicitis but now has indicate that it may be some type of viral infection.
Don't you think something else is going on - why would he be so lethargic? Are there other blood work they could take?
