Suggest Remedy For Itching And Swelling In Hands Caused By Wool Allergy
Question: I am a professional felter. I have never had problem with wool alergies before other than a slight irritation from less expensive wool. About a week ago the back of my hands began to itch/ burn terribly. By now they are swollen and lumpy and I can hardly stand it. I am using antihistamine (twice as much as I should I am afraid) and over the counter cortisone. I am wearing gloves when I work with the fingers cut out. I am still itching so bad I can not sleep! Any ideas what to do? There is a 2 week doctor appointment wait and I am sure I will have gone crazy by then.
Brief Answer:
Start combination of antihistamine and anti allergic drug.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
By your history and description possibility of allergy is more.
Along with antihistamine, you should also take anti allergic drug (montelukast).
Methyl prednisone is more potent then cortisone.
And it is good drug for skin allergy.
So start combination of antihistamine and anti allergic drug instead of plain anti histamine.
Also replace methylprednisolone.
If you are still not improving then injections should be started.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
