Posted on Fri, 19 Dec 2014
Question: Hello, l have a small raised mole which i've had since i can remember on stomach which doesnt see much sun. However it started itching and getting tender about a month ago. The doctor looked at it and said it was just infected so gave me some cream for it. But l notice it still hurts if l rub it or lean on it, which is now at least two weeks since l saw the doctor. Should l have it checked again., it has never been tender or painful before. I only notice pain when l accidently rub or lean on it, but it is quite a deep burning pain for a few seconds.

You should have it assessed again by your dermatologist.

It is possible that the infection has not completely resolved but any changes in moles need to be assessed to ensure that the changes are benign.

Moles are normally assessed using a tool called ABCDE.
A- asymmetry- does the mole appear symmetrical or is there any sign of asymmetry where one half appears different than the other.

Asymmetry is not a good indicator

B- border of the mole-are the edges uneven or blurred , not clearly seen

C-color of the mole- is the color uneven with different shades. This would not be a good sign

D-diameter- is the diameter of the mole greater than 6mm . The larger the size, the more likely that it may not be a benign lesion

E- evolving-new symptoms- change in size, shape color, pain , bleeding, itching etc

Though it is quite possible that your symptoms are related to the infection detected, a review by your dermatologist would confirm this.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
