Question: my seven year old son screaming from what he describes as pain
n and burning around anus

Thank you for writing in to HCM.
This is Dr.Riyanka answering your query.
It is often difficult when usually children have health problems.
Children are prone to anal fissures(tear in the anus) because of constipation.The pain may last upto 1-2 weeks by the time it heals. Hence, best remedy is to reduce the pain.
If i was the treating physician , I would recommend:
1. An ointment containing a local anaesthetics like lidocaine to be applied over the anus externally twice daily (provided he is not allergic to lidocaine) for three days.
2. Tablet acetaminophen 250mg twice daily shall help reduce the pain.
Kindly use the medications only after consulting a paediatrician.
Along with this warm baths are helpful.
To avoid these incidences in future make sure you give your child a diet rich in fibres, green leafy vegetables and fruits. Make him drink good amounts of water. All this can prevent constipation.
