Suggest Remedy For Pain In Buttocks After Exercising

Posted on Wed, 17 Dec 2014
Question: Hello, I have had a pain in my right side of the buttocks due to exercise. The pain does not run down my leg...it is in a very precise area, the middle of my buttock, right side. There was apparent accident nor did I notice it while exercising. I have stopped for a few weeks, and while it is a bit better, not improving as it should. I am healthy...and love moderate exercise. Do you think I have a tear? Thanks

Going by history it looks to be muscle tear.
You may continue with heating pad,Ibuprofen along with muscle relaxant drug thiocolchicoside.
Looking forward to your reply.

Dear Dr. Chung,

Nothing seems to make it better. What makes it worse is exercise. I did a class Friday, toning and cardio. Many lunges, and just lot's of leg movement and strengthening. It hurt so bad yesterday am when I awoke. So I am not sure ice or heat is better. I will take some ibuprofen. Don't muscle relaxers make you sleepy? I sleep great so no need for that.

The pain is in the center of my right buttock. I can put the pressure right on the spot. Thank you

Brief Answer:
Piriformis muscle soreness could be the cause

Detailed Answer:
Hello
It's good to see you.
I have gone through your reply carefully and symptoms are suggestive of muscle (Piriformis) soreness. My suggestion are-
1.Sitz bath (sitting in tub of lukewarm water and pelvic floor exercises (keagle ).
2.Avoid prolong sitting and heavy exercises and activities like climbing of stairs.
3.Avoid posture which makes the pain worse.
4.Physiotherapy is a good option for early recovery.
The drug thiocolchicoside is safe and does not cause much sedation, you should have it beside the ibuprofen. This is a prescribed medication.
Hope this suffices.
Regards
