I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing so much discomfort with your upper respiratory infection. There are several things you can do to help reduce your throat pain and relieve the pressure from your ears. The first thing I recommend is using a slat water gargle every hour to reduce the pain in your throat. Try acetaminophen or ibuprofen for the pain. I also recommend using an over the counter cold medication. The medication should have a decongestant and a cough suppressant. These two medications will help unclog your ears and reduce the throat pain. To get the best relief for the ears I also recommend a nasal decongestant spray. The spray will reduce swelling in your nose and reduce swelling to the eustachian tubes to your ears.

In summary
1. salt water gargles
2. acetaminophen or ibuprofen
3. cold medicine decongestant and cough suppressant
4. Nasal decongestant spray

Also, I would like to ask you about other problems i have been having. A month ago I began experiencing pain behind my left eye. 3 weeks ago I visited ophthalmologist who said there was slight inflammation, she gave me medication that cleared the pain in the eye. Yet within a week I experienced pain my head and eye as well. Th ophthalmologist said there was nothing wrong with my eyes when I went back. I visited an optician who said my vision was alright. But I keep feeling pain in my head, mainly on the left side. I have been under a lot of stress and tension for a month as well, is this the reason? Please reply.

Brief Answer:
Stress as as cause of pain

Detailed Answer:
Yes i would agree with you that the pain you are experiencing is probable stress induced. There are muscles around the eye and on the side of your head that will contact and cause pain. This may feel like a knife stabbing you in the head or even in the eye. I recommend getting plenty of rest and sleep. Try to reduce your stress with mediation or other methods.

If it helps, I had head pain for 4 straight months in 2012. I never got myself checked out but the pain used to be permanent at the time with little to no intervals between pain. I used to have difficulty sleeping, or when I put a little strain such as coughing or sneezing. But the pain simply vanished and I never felt it again. Around that time I wasnt as much in stress though,
