Question: I was diagnosed with exercised induced ashtma years ago. I was given singulair to take daily for allergies and it helped a little with the ashtma. I have also been given Advair, Symbicort and even albuterol(taken before exercise), however none of these medications have really helped me. When I try to run, I start to cough, spit up mucus and it is hard for me to catch my breath. Occassionally it will be hard for me to take a breath, however 99% of the time, this only happend when I exercise. Is there another medication I should be on?

Brief Answer:
You are taking appropriate drugs.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Your all drugs are appropriate. Singular is montelukast which is anti allergic drug.
Albuterol is having salbutamol. It is short acting beta 2 agonist. It should be taking just before starting exercise.
Advair is having salmeterol and fluticasone. Both are long acting and provide prolonged control in asthma.
If you are not improving by all these, you can try tiotropium inhaler. It is anti cholinergic drug. It is kind of bronchodilator. You can take this once daily. No proven role in exercise induced asthma, but indicated in uncontrolled asthma.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
