Question: I am 74 old lady and today I have been in the toilet 7 times in some 5 hours. The stools have a pasty appearance and light brown. I began taking PeptoBismol some 30 minutes ago. If the diarrhea continues, what should I do? Should I go to the emergency room.

First of all thanks for choosing Healthcaremagic for posting your query.

It seems like you are having Stomach infection . Stomach infection copuld be due to Virus or Bacteria. Most commonly it's due to virus and virus infection subsides by itself .

So my advise is to Hydrate yourself by drinking plenty of water , fruit juices and avoid oily food and non veg food .

Don't take Peptobismol . If there is no relief is a day then you can consult a doctor as you need Stool test to be done to check whether its Viral infection or Bacterial infection .

Hope this information was useful to you.
Any clarifications feel free to ask .

Regards.
