Question: I get a headache that worsens throughout the day when I wear pants that are even a little tight around the belly. This didn't used to happen when I was younger. What's the remedy?

Brief Answer:
There could be other cause of headache.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear ,
Welcome to the HCM.
Dear there are many factors which can cause headache ,like high B.P ,low sugar ,high sugar, stress, anxiety, deprived sleep ,thinking alot on one thing (obsession) and many more like increased cerebrospinal fluid pressure, decreased eye sight etc
Since what cause you have told ,it is uncommon.I would suggest first you rule out above causes. As headache is not a disease but a symptom ,so the triggering disease should be ruled out first. It might been coincidence that you are having headache with wearing tight paints but the culprit cause could be other.
As at this age high B.P and deranged sugar are one of the commnest causes. So I would suggest first get routine tests done and when there is headache get checked B.P and sugar and an ECG to rule out any major cause. So it can be treated accordingly.
I would like to ask weather this headache comes after having meal or early in the morning or starts in the evening?Do you have complaint of nausea or vomiting too?Are you undergoing any stressfull situation?
Hopefully I will be able to clarify you more ,knowing these answers .
Please do ask further and let me know , if I need to clarify more.
I will be happy to help.
Regards,
Dr.Maheshwari

Thank you for your answer! Here is some more data: My BP is around 110/70 or 80. I'm 5'6", 113 lbs. I don't know about sugar levels. There's no nausea or vomiting. I wear corrective lenses and the headache is only there with pants that squeeze--in the AM after putting on the pants and gradually increasing HA as the day wears on and at night it's bad. HA goes away when I take off the pants (maybe just dull, like 5% leftover). I wore loose pants and no HA. When I bought different pants that were tighter, had HA. Seems any elastic or stretchy material is bad. It's weird. Feels like increased intrathecal pressure. Doesn't seem to be worse after a meal but definitely at the end of the night like around 10:00pm it's awful.

Other information is various stuff with post-menopause: difficulty sleeping, hot flashes, decreased muscle mass, fat pad on belly. Stress is always the same (med to high) but more irritable after menopause I guess with the lack of hormones. I'm taking bioidentical HRT for past couple years so less irritable and less hot flashes and I sleep better. I don't have obsessions or too much thinking--it's only related to the pants as I've seen it half dozen times over the past several months of testing.

I'll get the tests you suggest but I'll need to schedule everything so I don't know how long that will take. I do have a doctor for the above but haven't addressed this situation. Right now I'm trying to find out if anyone has ever heard of this scenario and what I can do to handle it. Thanks for your help!

Brief Answer:
Avoid tight clothing.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.
Dear after getting your whole history ,the factors causing headache could be side effect of HRT and tight clothing too can cause headache and even fainting.
As for proper breathing abdominal muscles (diaphragm) is essential to cordinate with chest muscles for breathing and oxygen consumption. So someone can have shallow breathing with less oxygen, wearing too tight undergarments and paints , which causes indirectly changes in vessels of brain and can cause headache.
So in nut shell you should avoid tight paints and tight clothing to avoid headache ;if it is still there then adjusting in dose of HRT could help ruling out the other cause of headache as it is one of the side effect of HRT too.Since you have been noticing headache with wearing tight paint then better it should be avoided as it could be also one of the cause indirectly.
As per now no investigations are needed but if headache worsens inspite of ruling out both factors then follow accordingly for the investigations.
Hopefully I answered your question. You may ask further without hesitation.
Regards.
