Suggest Remedy For Persistent Itching And Redness In Intergluteal Cleft

default
Posted on Tue, 12 Jan 2016
Question: It all started a couple of months ago, my whole penis, scotum, and butt crack including anus itched brutally. For two weeks straight I've applied lotrimin to the areas noted. After two weeks stopped applications of said fungal cream and problems HAD seem to be about 95% better. Now two weeks after last applying lotrimin symptoms are alot worse. I have extremely red butt crack from start to finish, which itches periodically. Also it tends to flake of skin kind of like a sunburn. And my entire scotum an entire penis, that is shaft head every last nano cell of skin is red shiny and skin peels and cracks causing lesions. Case in point what the is this? I know its not an STD cause I've been refraining from sex for the past six months.
Thanks,
Extremely Frustrated

Brief Answer:
Please continue lotrimin for longer duration and consult doctor if required

Detailed Answer:
Hi xxxxxxxxxxxxx,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. If you found 95 percent relief with lotrimin which contains the medicine clotrimazole which is an antifungal then it is most likely that you have a fungal infection.

2. A fungal infection is a slow infection and takes time to get treated. Applying antifungal for 15 days if not sufficient to clear the infections. The probable cause for worsening can be the damp weather and if you share towels, clothes or wear wet clothes.

3. It is recommended that you please apply lotrimin for at least a month to get treated. Occasionally some patients might not get treated completely with ointment application and if the symptoms persist even after a month of lotrimin use then you should consult a dermatologist for confirmation and for prescription of oral antifungal medicine.

4. Please avoid scratching the itching areas and apply the ointment at least 2 times daily after wiping dry following your bath. Wear cotton innerwear which is dry to stop sweating in the genital region. Avoid sharing towels and clothes with others. Trim your pubic hair to keep the genital area dry.

5. You can apply antifungal powder in your genital region if there are extensive area of involvement for early healing.

Hope your query is answered.
