Suggest Remedy For Persistent Pain In Knee And Leg

default
Posted on Tue, 17 Nov 2015
Question: I have had lower back, knee, and hand pain for several years. X-ray showed L2,3,4 compression. I have had physical therapy, injections, chiropractic care and treated with medications. My pain continues to get worse. This last year my legs ache, knees are worse and my feet hurt every morning when I'm out of bed and at nights after getting home from work. I feel tired all the time but my sleep is broken, I sleep a few hours at a time because I can't seem to shut off the day! I'm finding myself more emotional and I relate it to just not feeling good. I'm a 51 Y M and there is family history of knee surgeries, back issues with brothers and on my mothers side. My concern is the the worsening of joint pain and not feeling well. It hurts to even walk at nights. I work in a physical job with a lot of lifting and I'm on concrete all day. I work a second job that requires lifting of 150 lbs +. I feel just wore out at end of day and Tylenol and Ibuprofen combos don't touch it any more. What's next?

Brief Answer:
Exclude vitamin D deficiency and osteoporosis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query

I'm Dr Sudhir Kumar

I have gone through your query and understand your concern. Your symptoms points towards vitamin D deficiency. It is advisable to get vitamin D test and if found low take vitamin D3 supplements in therapeutic dose. Second possibility is osteoporosis. It is comfirmed by BMD( bone mineral density) test. It is also advisable to exclude thyroid disease by thyroid function test and diabetes by blood sugar level. Analgesic are useful for pain relief. If ibuprofen/ paracetamol are not effective then stronger analgesic such as tramadol can be taken after consulting your doctor. You can discuss with your doctor about it.

Hope your query get answered. If you have any clarification then I will be happy to help you.

Wishing you a good health.
Take care.
