Question: I am 72 yrs old and had an aorta mechanical HV replaced in 2003 with a St XXXXXXX pace
maker and a six way bypass. I have been on 20-30 mg of Benicar for that period of time. Moved to TX and new Cardi/Elect cardiologist had me take an ECCO as indication was AVR,PPM last week. Results were:
Left Ventricle Diastole 5.8 LVOT 1.9cm
Left Ventricle Systole 4.1 Proximal Aorta 4.6cm Aortic Arch 3.1 cm
Left Septal Wall 1.1cm Posterior Wall 1.1cm Left Atrium 4.1cm LF. Aortic Root 3.8cm
Mitral mildly thickened leaflets Trace regurg, Aorta valve same, Tricuspid mild regurg Pulmonic mild regurg. Mitral E=0.6 m/s, A= 1.0 m/s Aortic Peak flow velocity 1.7 m/s. I have been scheduled for CT scan. No pericardial effusion, No Thrombus in left ventricular cavity. Summary Left vent normal in size with normal systolic function, Estimate LVEF of 55-60% Impaired relaxation of Left vent. Rt vent normal in size w/normal func. Dilated left atrium. Rt atrium normal. Estim rt vt systolic pressure of 31 mmHg,assruming RAP of 10mmHg.

What kind of surgery would be required? To repair this issue with my current Mechanical HV or new one, and "when"? What are the odds of me dying on the
table? If able to repair, how long would that last?

Brief Answer:
Further cardiac investigations are needed...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your query carefully and understood your concerns.

Other investigations are needed to determine whether you :
- need to run surgery
- if yes, what type of surgery is most suitable for you?

Investigations advised are:
- trans-esophageal ultrasound
- cardiac angio ct-scan
- angiography

Mortality rate is lower than 10% (between 5 - 10%).

If it is repaired, the repair may last up to 10 more years.

Hope it answered to your queries!

Thank you Dr. Shehu,
Are we talking about my current Aorta Mechanical Heart Valve needing replacement after all investigations are finished, or another valve, or multiple
valve's?
Thank you for your handling! XXXXXXX Goldman
