Question: I am a 70 yr old woman, 160 lbs, 5'1, history of breast cancer and systemic MRSA with sepsis following a mastectomy. That was 8 yrs ago. I have few wrinkles on my face, but I do now have a noticeable horizonal line under the skin about 1/4" above my upper lip. It is more apparent when I smile. It appears to be a blood vessel. Is it possible this is due to severe redman's syndrome side effect (actually a bad facial burn) from the vancomycin treatment for the MRSA ? Is there a relatively easy way to eradicate this line ?

Brief Answer:
Could be due to deposition in blood vessel

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health Care Magic

I can understand your concern. Red Man Syndrome usually occurs after few minutes of infusion of vancomycin and it results in deposition of some blood cells in blood vessels. Red Man Syndrome manifesting after 8 years is rare.

I would like to know if the line is present since last 8 years or did it appeared recently?

It could be blood vessel with bluish colour, or if you have history of Red man Syndrome 8 years back then it could be delayed complication of that.

Easy way to eradicate it is to start a trial of anti-histaminic (anti-allergic) drugs like Levocetrizine, Fexofenadaine or low dose steroids. These drugs will help to clear deposited debris. Consult your physician for prescription of these drugs.

Thankyou. Ask again for more doubts.
