Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us
I have gone through your query and I have also reviewed the Image. I can see a coin sized, red, scaly patch. The character of this patch and the overlying scale, does resemble that of a typical psoriatic plaque.
Diagnosis of psoriasis is clinical and is based on a classical morphology and distribution. A skin biopsy or any other lab test, is rarely required to confirm the diagnosis. A typical psoriatic plaque is well defined, raised patch with waxy scaling Or silvery white scaling. These patches may be widely distributed but characteristicaly favor extensor surfaces like elbows, knee joints, lower back and scalp.
Currently there are a lot of treatment options available (topical as well as oral) which effectively clear psoriatic patches, treatment depending on the severity of skin involvement.
Common topical treatment options include topical steroids with or without salicylic acid, coal tar with or without salicylic acid and vitamin D analogues with or without topical steroids. Whereas, commonly employed systemic treatment options include Oral methotrexate, phototherapy, cyclosporin, retinoids etc.
Unfortunately, psoriasis may relapse after seemimgly complete cure and certain factors like stress, infection, medications, alcohol and winter season are well known precipitants of psoriasis.
