Posted on Wed, 11 Mar 2015
Question: My 5 year old daughter has a bad rash on her face/cheek due to using Mederma to try and minimize the appearance of a new scar (Which was recommended by her pediatrician). She is now broke out in a circle the size of the bottom of a baby bottle on her cheek. What should I put on it to treat it. It looks raw and neosbourne seems to irritate it. She has sensitive skin and scars very bad. I have also used Mupirocin ointment 2% that was prescribed for another skin infection.

Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

Dear Ms

The rash is non infective in origin. The rash has been aggravated by allergic reaction to both insect bite and hypersensitivity reaction to topical antibiotic ointment.

I would suggest you the following

1. Stop any further local application of any ointment containing antibiotic, as there is no infection antibiotic will not be helpful infact it may worsen the rash

2. Local application of milk steroid like Mometasone which is available as over the counter medication will be helpful

3. Oral antihistaminic syrup

4. Avoid direct exposure to sunlight.

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Brief Answer:
Benadryl is antihistamine

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ms

I would suggest you to try any topical steroid ointment which is available as over the counter medication. Hydrocortisone 1% should be available as over the counter medication. Benadryl is antihistamine and can be used.
