Suggest Remedy For Severe Abdomen And Groin Pain
I was having severe abdomen and groin pain on the right side which went up to the back since yesterday morning. I had a sonography done and it revealed a 5mm calculus at the UV junction of right kidney. Mild to moderate hydronephrosis and hydroureter is seen on the right side.
My question is whether this size stone is normal and would pass through urine? how many days it might take to pass and how do I manage the severe pain if I get it again

Hello
Thanks for your query, based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have severe pain in loin on right side and ultrasound scanning has revealed presence of 5 mm size stone in Right ureter at UV Junction with mild to moderate hydronephrosis (Back pressure changes ) due to impacted stone.
Normally 5mm size stone pass out in urine spontaneously however it is difficult to predict time frame required to pass it through.
Following regime will help it to pass down with ease.
1) Drink at least 4-5 liters of water to produce more urine and to get it flushe out earlier,
2) Take antibiotics (Ciprofloxacin twice daily to prevent infection.
3) Take smooth muscle relaxants like Datovarine twice daily.
4) Taking Tomsulosin once daily will help it to pass down without pain.
5) Repeat Ultrasound scan after two weeks to confirm the status of stone
In case during this expectant period if you get severe pain ,vomiting ,and fever you need to visit Urologist immediately for active intervention to remove it endoscopically.
Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.

Thank you for your valuable information and guidance. I will surely follow the regime mentioned by you. Request your inputs on the below 2 questions that I have:
1. If the pain has subsided now today (only 10% as compared to 100%) yesterday, does it mean anything?
2. If the stone is in UV junction, in the renal system does it mean it is near to the urethra or it has a long distance to travel yet.
Thank you.

Hello
Thanks for follow up.
Pain due to stone is always due to obstruction to flow of urine from that particular kidney into bladder and never due to stone itself .The relief from pain can happen in two circumstances
1) Stone moves down and there is room for urine to pass down through ureter and the urine flow is restored
2) The obstruction is so sever that kidney gets fired up and stops functioning (This happens very rarely in UV junction stone)).
The stone impacted at UV junction is very close to the bladder and is likely to come down in bladder soon.
