Question: i am 26 year old female 5/3 and 114 pounds.... I have been diagonosed with epilepsy in the past two months and was started on zonegran....prior to this i was diagnosed with PCOS and fybromyalgia bordering lupus.... I have been experiencing severe depression, memory loss, weight loss, horrible rashes and pain. Recently I found bruises covering my legs and my urine and stool had blood. the er results showed out of normal range levels for Hyaline casts, platelet levels, squamous epithileal, leukoycyte, white blood cells and protein. The past two days severe pain below my left ribs and i cannot drink water because it tastes bitter and terrible... My gynecologist believes this is a kidney issue while another doctor has suggested that it is SLE (systemic lupus) Do you have any thoughts? Both my EEG and MRI have always been clear...Thank you !

Systemic Lupus

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

From the history you have provided it does look like you might be having Lupus. However I must add here that Lupus can affect kidneys as well. You must undergo evaluation as soon as possible. I recommend that you see an immunologist, if there is no immunologist then I please get the following tests done through your GP to know activity of Lupus
1. ANA profile
2. Complement 3 and Complement 4
3. Complete hemogram with ESR
4. CRP levels
5 . Urine routine with 24 hour urine protein and creatinine
6. Renal function test

Lupus can affect any organ that is brain, kidney, lungs, heart, etc. The symptoms you are facing including seizure can be part of lupus. There are several treatment options based on the activity, it is handled best by a immunologist. It is also handled by nephrologists and internal medicine doctors.
