Suggest Remedy For Severe Pain And Pressure In Head Caused By Sinusitis
Question: Yes, thank you. I have a very bad sinus infection, the 2nd one is less than 2 months. My doctor put me on Omnicef & Astelin but I am not getting better and I am beside myself. I have used netti pot, humidifiers and nothing seem to help the pain and pressure for long. What else can be done to relieve these symptoms and get over the sinus infection?

I have read your query , reviewed your medications and understand your concern.
In my opinion , you should do investigation like CT Scan Nose with sinuses to know extend of disease in sinuses . If you already done CT scan kindly upload report.
If I were your treating doctor , Till then I would advice
Combination Steroid nasal spray with antihistamine 2 puff each nostril twice daily like Duonase nasal spray ,
Antihistaminic Fexofenadine + Montelukast combination like Tab Allegra M at night ,
Saline nasal spray or rinse thrice daily ,
Tab Rantac twice daily &
continue Omnicef & Motrin (ibuprofen) .
Gargle with salt water 20 mins after nasal spray use to remove any spray coming to throat & post nasal drip.
If your are having allergy associated with sinus infection then you will need to continue anti allergy medication till the allergy subside .
You will need to see your doctor to get a prescription.
You will get relief .

Thank you for your help. I have not done a CT Scan of the the nose with sinuses, I will look into having one done.
I am taking Astelin the generic of Duonase like you suggested also using Nasacort once a day. What will Allegra M help with and what form is it to be taken, in pill or nasal spray?
Also, I am curious you suggested Rantac twice a day, isn't that used for gastric problems? What will that do to help with my sinus infection? I do have allergies that are probably causing the sinus infections I have been getting. This is my 5th sinus infection in a year. I do believe there is mold in the office I work in and hot, dry heat with no windows so this is a continuous issue for me.

Instead of using two nasal spray you can use combination nasal spray like Duonase ( combination of azelastine hydrochloride and fluticasone propionate ) or you can use two nasal spray Astelin & Nasacort .
Allegra M is available in tablet form for nasal congestion & allergy .
Since you are having more sinus pain with pressure , you will need both tablet as well as nasal spray .
You are using antibiotic & will need anti inflammatory for sinus ,hence i advice Rantac twice a day to avoid any stomach discomfort . It is common to have GERD in long standing sinus disease . GERD can promote sinus disease .
Allergy can only be control on anti allergy medication but difficult to cure completely . Once you stop allergy medication , within few weeks sinus disease will reoccurs . You need to continue allergy medication till allergy subside .

I did forget to mention that I am taking probiotics, Multidolphilus 12, do I still need to take the Rantac?
