Suggest Remedy For Severe Pain In Knee

Question: Hi so I've been haveing pain my my left knee/tendon from the knee cap to the shin for about 5 weeks now, I was running on the treadmill more and also at the time of doing leg press I assumed I pulled something on the left lower side next to the left knee cap. I've tried resting it, salt baths, icing, ibraprophen, knee brace( which at times I can't handle the pressure on the tendon). I also at the time of possible injury tried that athletic tape that you place under the knee cap and two starting on one side of the knee cap and ending diagonal onto the shin. The pain seems to switch up throughout the days, sometimes it's sharp pain right above the knee cap never under the knee cap, sometimes it's that tendon below the cap connected to the shin that hurts more of a bruised like feel especially to the touch, sometimes on the side of the knee caps there is pain like bee stings. Sometimes it doesn't hurt for most of the day just feels really week. Pains that happen every day and night are- a leg cramp feel but in the hamstring behind my knee(happens on and off throughout the night) -Laying on my stomach and having my knee cap flat against a surface hurts, can't really describe the pain of that except that it hurts to do that, along with kneeling down on the ground. -keeping my leg bent for a long period of time makes it sore and kinda like a leg cramp on the sides of the knee. I'm trying to sleep on my side with a pillow between my legs because having my leg lay on my knee hurts more, and yet the pain is still there with the pillow between. Some days the pain is greater and other days it's less. Trying to figure out what's wrong with me before I go get a giant doctors XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Runners knee or Patellar tendinitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Thanks for the query.

It is possible that you have Runner's knee or Patellar tendinitis.

It is commonly seen in those who use the treadmill because the running dynamics are altered in a treadmill as compared to regular running on the ground. This could make you prone for knee disorders and early degenerative changes.

Do get a knee Xray and MRI to look for degenerative changes and patellar tendinitis.

Apply warm packs to the painful regions or ice, whichever offers relief. Wear a hinged knee brace. Avoid jogging or running for 10 days. Avoid squatting or cross leg sitting.

Do review with me after getting the Xray and MRI and I shall help you solve this problem once a definitive diagnosis is made.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Question: so i would have better coverage to do the xray and mri when my husbend and i get back in oregon, right now we are all the way in XXXXXXX for his tech school. The pain has lessen since ive been wearing the brace more and limiting my activity. Would it be ok for my knee to wait till july to proceed with a xray and mri?
