Suggest Remedy For Severe Pain In The Inner Thighs

Posted on Mon, 1 Jun 2015
Question: two nights ago I was awoken by a pain in my inner thigh. I don't know if it was a leg cramp or blood clot and I am concerned. I was able to walk on it and get it calmed down enough to go back asleep. It is still sore today when I move a certain way. I had been riding in the back seat of a car for 3 hours earlier in the day.

Brief Answer:
Just due to long durations of being seated; clot highly unlikely

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. Although I can understand your cause for concern, I do not think riding at the back seat of a car for 3 hours is sufficient enough to result in the formation of a blood clot, unless you have a serious underlying condition of the blood or are on medications that can result in rapid formation of blood clots.

I would although like to add that circumstances like dehydration, low vitamin B12 levels, loss of electrolytes from the body due to diarrhea, etc; are all factors that can result in a presentation similar to yours. But in fact, the pain in your leg was due to the long duration of being seated, but this does not mean that this can be due to a blood clot.

In fact, if it were a blood clot then you would notice symptoms like discolouration of the peripheries of your leg (i.e. your toes), cold feet, reduced or loss of sensation, breathing difficulties, etc.

Just make sure you walk well enough for now, and also keep moving your feet up and down even while you are seated. As for the next travel, make sure you can make a pitstop for just about 2-5 minutes every 1 hour to get out of the care and take a short walk and do a few sit ups.

I hope you find my response both helpful and informative. Please do not hesitate to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.

Best wishes ma'am.
