Suggest Remedy For Skin Rash After Using Tanning Lotion
Question: I have developed a skin rash after using a self tanning lotion. The rash looks more like red spots. The spots are not raised and appear more on the bottoms of my feet and legs. However I am itching all over and it also has a pricking sensation on my skin. I have taken Benadryl for the itching and have used an OTC hydrocortisone cream. It has been 2 weeks since I have used this tanning product but the rash or the symptoms have not gone away. Is there something else I can use that will help? Also, will I be allergic to ALL self tanning products now?
Brief Answer:
Allergic contact dermatitis
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query.
Probably you have developed allergic contact dermatitis due to tanning cream.
Benadryl and cortisone cream are helpful but sometimes oral Steroids are required.
Can you please upload a photograph of the involved area.
This will help me in giving a closer diagnosis.
Try to find out a tanning cream with different composition.
Next time apply a little amount of the new cream behind your ear and let it be there overnight.
If you dont develop any reaction then this cream can be used.
Let me know if you have any other doubt.
Thank you.

Hello
Thanks for the follow up and photograph.
Are you sure these appeared after the use of cream ?
I would like to know where all on body you apply that cream and did you develop rashes all over body ?
I am asking this to rule out other possibilities.
Waiting for your response.
Thank you

I used the tanning lotion on my arms, legs and torso. Also used on the tops of my feet but not on the bottom of my feet where the rash appears. Today, it seems to be worse. I am seeing it more vividly on my hands and legs today. I have not used this product or any tanning product in two weeks. Could it be something else that i am allergic to? This was the only new thing that i have put on my skin. Everything else i ambuding, i have been using for a long time with no problems. I am attaching pictures of my hands and legs today
Brief Answer:
Fungal infection
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the details.
It is looking more like a fungal infection rather than allergic response to me.
I treat such cases with a strong antifungal like itraconazole capsule and topical clotrimazole cream.
This gives excellent response within a week. I will suggest you try it after discussing with your doctor.
Continue with benadryl till the time itch is there.
Let me know if you have any other doubt.
Thank you
