Brief Answer:
The sleep requirement of a child may vary but you need not worry.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

Let me assure you that a child will get the sleep she requires and there is no intervention that is needed if the child does not seem to sleep adequately. In fact the child gets very small naps in between even though the child might seem to be awake practically all the time. Some children might sleep less but that is all the sleep that they require.

Many babies crave for the mother's touch and would go to sleep peacefully when you take her up on the lap and do some cuddling. A cot might not offer that comfort and reassurance. The crying indicates that there is some discomfort or unmet demand of the baby. You will have to be observant and I do not think that you will have problems in finding out the cause. Taking care of the issue should take care of the crying and leave the child relaxed to sleep.

Let me know if I could be of further assistance.

Regards
