Question: My daughter had sour throat, swollen tonsils, fever and was continuously vomiting. Then she also developed skin rashes which are itching. Doctor had prescribed dolopar for fever. Can that cause skin rash? Or it was due to some previous allergic reaction?k

Brief Answer:
Scarlet fever or infectious mononucleosis is a possibility.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM.

I have gone through your query. Your daughter's problem can be due to infectious mononucleosis or scarlet fever. In this both cases rash is seen along with sore throat. Dolopar is paracetamol given for fever and pain and it usually doesn't cause rashes. Only rare people are allergic to it. If you have given her paracetamol or acetaminophen for her before then we can rule out that also.

Give her warm fluids like tea with lemon, ginger and honey. Warm chicken soup is also good. Throat lozenges and warm saline or chlorhexidine gargle will be helpful for throat.

If vomiting is more then anti emetic like domperidone will be needed. Taking chewable vitamin C is helpful for fast recovery also. Antihistamines like benadryl or cetrizine can be given for itching. You can also apply calamine lotion locally.

Better to have a blood routine to rule out cause of sore throat. In case of signs of bacterial infection antibiotic therapy will be needed.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.

Vomits are under control and fever is also less frequent but there is a lot of itching due to rashes. The rashes round the neck have white sores. Doctor has given syp alerid, syp refzil p, syp maxtra, syp meftal and syp emeset

Thank you for your follow up query.

Your doctor has given her antibiotic. So it could be bacterial infection like scarlet fever. It will improve soon. No need to worry in such case. For itching you can apply histocalamine lotion locally. Blood routine should be done if fever persist.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
