Suggest Remedy For Sore Throat With Post Nasal Drip And Bad Cough

History- for the last 5/6 weeks my throat has been bothering me. It felt on fire XXXXXXX vocal chordes were sore to talk. I sawy primary care dr and she said it sounded like reflux and prescribed me nexium 20mg. K waited a week or week and a half and asked for a referral for an ent. I finally got it approved and saw the ent. He gave me an exam and felt my throat neck area along with Laryngoscopy (indirect- woth mirrors and lights) he saidy entire throat looked good nothing abnormal and the he feels its silent reflux causing all these issues. He upped my prescription to 40mg and it seems to be helping.
Forcthe past 4 days i have had a sore throat, lots of coughing, very stuffy and post nasal drip. My kids seemed to have the same cold but-
When i coughed and cleared my throat this am i saw blood and i am freaking out. I have been coughing since and no blood but some phlem- what could this be? I am freaking out!! With the doctor looking in my throat would he havw saw throat cancer? I am freaking outthinking i have it especially with blood.
I am taling the nexium and dayquil
And plan to call the doctor if i see ot again.
Last night i was at a bondfire and outside but drank tea to soothe it and help the cough. My chest feels clear .
Thank you and please help me
due to acute infection

Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic
The ENT doctor would have been able to identify any changes that would have been indicative of cancer. There would have been signs on examination.
Cancer changes also take a long time to develop so it is not likely that any changes would have occurred since you would have been assessed.
Blood occurs due to inflammation (essentially irritation ) of any surface. Though cancer is a possible cause, there are also other, more common causes such the acute infection that you are now experiencing.Acute viral or bacterial infections of the throat and nose can cause blood on coughing and also in the nasal discharge.
In addition blood in the nasal passages or throat can also occur due to allergies (again due to irritation of the lining).
Summary: (1)the ent doctor would have been able to see signs of cancer if they were present
(2)blood can be seen on coughing and in nasal discharge with acute viral upper respiratory tract infections ( the common cold) or in bacterial infections
(3)blood can also be seen in some cases of allergic sinusitis and allergic rhinits
The blood is due to inflammation of the lining of the throat and/or nasal passages.
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

understandable but not cancer
Detailed Answer:
HI
It is understandable to be concerned about the appearance of blood but it is not likely cancer related.
Cancer causes specific changes to be seen, there would have been changes to the surfaces seen when the doctor examined your ears , nose and throat.
If these changes were not seen then cancer is very highly unlikely.
Blood can be seen with ANY inflammation of surface. Because you have a sore throat, your throat is now inflamed and this is causing the blood to be seen.
When this acute infection resolves, the blood would also resolve.
