Brief Answer:
You can expect the stone to pass down spontaneously .

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query ,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have a stone of a size of 5 mm in distal ureter with mild hydronephrosis .

Normally in majority of cases stones up to size of 8 mm pass out spontaneously and no surgical intervention (Ureteroscopy) is required .

Following treatment and measures will help to pass out the stone spontaneously.
1) Drink more water to produce more urine .That will help to flush out the stone .
2) Take smooth muscle relaxant like Tomsulosin once daily This will help to dilate the ureter and there by tp pass the stone down into bladder .
3) Tab Dataverine twice daily .It has action similar to Tomsulosin .
4) Antibiotic as a prophylaxis to prevent infection .

Ureteroscopy and fragmentation is needed only if there is severe pain , vomiting and fever suggesting secondary infection and severe hydronephrosis .

It is normally done under regional anesthesia (Spinal Anesthesia) and requires hospitalization for 2-3 days and recovery period of one week.

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
