It needs to be checked whether dose is adequate.Tepid sponging suggested.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I am sorry to hear that your child is down with fever. Meftal contains mefenamic acid which is more effective in reducing temperature as compared to crocin which contains paracetamol. The first thing that needs to be considered is whether the dose administered is adequate for your baby. The dose is weight dependant and for meftal it should be given at 4 to 6.5 mg/kg per dose at a minimum interval of 6 hours (maximum 25 mg/kg/day). Since the weight of your child has not been mentioned, please calculate as per the body weight and modify the dose if inadequate. Please note that Meftal is a prescription medicine and should be taken only under the guidance of your treating doctor. So, discuss with him about the dose modification.

If the temperature does not come down with even the appropriate dose of Meftal, you need to seek urgent medical attention and intravenous or suppository form of paracetamol might need to be given.

About sponging, it should be given with lukewarm water or at least water at body temperature and not with ice water. If you are using ice water, that could be the reason for the child crying.

Hoping for your child to get well soon.

Regards
