Brief Answer:
Cellulitis most likely.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
Hi, I am Dr Anshul Varshney , I have read your query in detail , I understand your concern.
The description you are giving seems to be of Cellulitis, which is a spreading bacterial infection of the skin and tissues beneath the skin.
This is most commonly found in people with diabetes and requires evaluation for the same. However, non diabetic people can also get it.
The mainstay of treatment includes antibiotics like Augmentin and Pain killers, anti inflammatory drugs like combination of Diclofenac and Serratio peptidase.
Many cases of severe cellulitis also requires intravenous antibiotics.
You should see your doctor as soon as possible. He may order his blood sugar test as well as color Doppler of the involved limb followed by antibiotics and pain killers as discussed.
This is my personal opinion based on details available here. If you still have any other query, you may please ask me.
Stay Healthy.

Brief Answer:
No it's not only edema.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
It can be dependent edema associated with cellulitis but it's not purely edema as it is mostly found on both the legs and thighs and is not associated with any sign of inflammation like pain, redness.
It's probably cellulitis and there is nothing to do at home.
This is a critical issue. I would advice you not to take it lightly and treat it with home remedies.
Kindly see your doctor as soon as possible.
Good luck.

Brief Answer:
Yes can be a reason.

Detailed Answer:
Infection can be initiated by any small trauma or any insect bite.
So, spider bite is also a possibility.
Diabetics are more prone to get such infection and hence a workup for diabetes is also required.
