Question: hi my brother is currently in the hospital out of state and i'm very worried. The doctors do not have a diagnostic after 3 days. He had migranes on the weekend and then tingling in both arms, legs and of this morning his face. Interestingly he has no lost of strength but he has difficultly walking without assistance. He is 35 years gold They drew blood and found that he as a high white blood count. They did a CT scan and didn't find anything and have scheduled a Spinal tap an MRI.
What is the possible cause?
My wife and I expect a baby in a few days and i was wondering if cord blood banking should be considered for by brother.

Brief Answer:
Neurological examination/Nerve conduction studies.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.

The medical history you have provided points out towards the evolving phase of a probable quadriparesis(including face).
Though, its difficult to point out the cause without a neurological examination, however,I think this clinical setting is common in case of GBS(Guillain barre syndrome). So,in addition to MRI and spinal tap-Nerve conduction studies appears to be a mandatory investigation in the setting.Besides,as I already told that probable diagnosis may change after the neurological examination.

Another possibility of hypokalemic paresis should be ruled out.Serum electrolytes should be analysed.
Spinal cord involvement appears unlikely due to the involvement of face.Otherwise,MRI Spine could also have been planned.
Please follow-up with the reports of MRI and spinal(CSF fluid)analysis. If you have any further questions for now,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up.
