Question: Hi,

My baby is 3 months old now. His milk intake is very less. Due to less mom's milk, we are feeding him Nestle nan pro 1 some times. What could be the reason behind less intake? what was the ideal milk intake for 3 months baby? Also he is sleeping more time. is it okay?

Thanks,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
Don't worry if weight gain and urine output is normal

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for asking on this platform

Poor breast milk production or low intake of milk by baby is a very common complaint in this age.
I would like to tell you some facts-
Most of the mother has enough breastfeeding milk production to meet the demand of the baby.
Enough milk production can be assessed by urinary frequency, activity of the baby and weight gain. There is no need to worry if baby is passing urine 4-6 times a day, gets satisfied after feed (don't cry even after feed, get asleep or remain playful) and gaining weight satisfactorily(20-30 mg/kg/day in initial 3 months).
Formula feed/top feed is not needed in most of the babies.Even if needed Nan pro 1 is a good choice.
Also the sleep cycle of baby remain variable during initial 6 months.I won't get worried for excessive sleep if otherwise baby is active.

I hope this helps.
Please let me know if you have any queries.
