Brief Answer:
There is no real compromise in quality of life...

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Hashimoto's disease is a very common one and it's usually easy to cope with it. It may increase the risk for malignancy (particularly lymphoma). Thyroid malignancies can be cured in many cases. The best scenario is an early recognition of the malignant transformation. The earliest the tumor recognition, the best the chances of a cure. Please note that thyroid tumors are rare and tumors when Hashimoto's disease is present are rare as well...

Treatment for Hashimoto's disease targets the hormonal function of the thyroid. Thyroid hormones are given by mouth and that's all! The only compromise in life quality involves taking the hormones the right way. That is taking them at about the same time every day, with an empty stomach and avoiding eating for some time, avoiding taking drugs together with the hormones etc. This can be somewhat annoying but this is not a major problem for most patients.

Treatment of thyroid lymphoma consists of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The best outcome is expected when the disease is confined to the thyroid only.

I hope I've helped!

Brief Answer:
Most cases are confined in the thyroid only

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

I can't give a 100% answer on your first questions, but according to my knowledge, treatment won't reduce the risk for malignant transformation. This transformation is supposed to happen due to the autoantibody stimuli that affect the thyroid which is not addressed by current treatment options.
The risk for malignant transformation may be less than 1 in 1000.

Non-Hodgkin Lymphomas (NHL) may affect the spleen, liver, lymph nodes, brain, digestive tract, bone marrow etc

The treatment duration depends. Only chemotherapy can be chosen which usually consists of 6-8 cycles. This last for a few months. The exact duration may have to do with the regimen choice, side effects etc
If chemotherapy and radiotherapy is chosen then the cycles could be less (3). Radiotherapy alone can be a choice in an indolent lymphoma confined to the thyroid. The exact treatment options also depend on the tumor type because lymphomas have many types and treatment is guided by hematologists-oncologists.

The prognosis is very good. It is defined as being free of disease at the 5th year after treatment. It ranges from 50% with chemotherapy alone, to 90% with combination therapy (chemo+radio).

Kind Regards!
