Suggest Safe Emergency Contraceptive Pills To Avoid Pregnancy

I am getting married next week.My fiancee and myself are not planning for kids for another one year.My fiancee is having irregular periods. She is lean, height 157 cms and weight 51 kgs. Kindly suggest if taking pills is advisable to avoid getting pregnant. If so, please advise one with no side effects at all(which can be taken before or after sex). Please suggest alternatives apart from pills, if available. My main concern is that there should be absolutely no side effects and it should be totally safe.
emergency contraceptive pills; condoms.
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.
I can understand your concerns.
Taking emergency contraceptive pills is safe as it has no side effects on long term.
However, it can cause some immediate side effects like nausea, dyspepsia and headache and early or delayed periods for initial 2-3 cycles.
This is because it contains hormones.
The pills are available under the trade name ipill or unwanted 72. It has to be taken within 12 hours after intercourse.
Alternative methods are:
1. You can use condoms. Its absolutely safe.
2. Second you can try coitus interruptus. In this, you have to pull your penis out of vagina just before ejaculation.
3. Performing intercourse in safe period. This would be difficult to determine as she is having irregular periods.
In summary,
The best choice would be using a condom because every pill contains hormones and does have some side effects.
Hope this helps.
Feel free to ask further.
Thanks.
