Suggest Suitable Diet For A 5 Moths Old Baby
Question: My daughter is 5 months old. When she was 20 days old we tried Similac (milk based formula), but she had repeated vomiting on that day. So we never tried formula milk after that thinking that she is allergic to formula though there might be other reasons. Later in her 4.5 month we tried Cerelac (wheat flavour) and she had repeated vomiting on that day too. Later we realised that Cerelac was too early for her. Now, as my wife is not able to produce enough milk for our baby, we planned to supplement her with formula milk, but we were afraid due to her allergic reaction earlier. So, today we met a Paediatrician and she told that baby might be allergic to cow milk based formula and she asked us to try Isomil (soy based formula), though she also told us to be ready anytime to go to hospital in case even if this formula does not suit my baby. Now we are very much in a dilemma on what formula to try - Similac again, or Isomil as suggested or Similac sensitive (which is special formula for sensitive stomach). Kindly advice us on this and how can we proceed. If this formula also not suits her, then what is our next course of action? Please help us.
Brief Answer:
relax.
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
I understand your concern.
Relax,there is nothing to worry.
As babies grow they outgrow some of allergies.
For your baby I suggest you to give soy based formula initally in addition to breastmilk and see response.
Give formula milk in small amount initally.
As she is about to complete 6 months in few days complementary feeding is to be started like boiled rice water and boiled pulses water in addition to milk.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can help further.
Wishing your baby good health.
God bless...

thanks Doctor. I have one more query. How about the timing when we can feed the formula milk - like before breast feed or after. In day time or night time or both? And at the same time whether little breast milk and little formula milk can be given alternatively? or there should be some gap between breast feed and formula feed?
Brief Answer:
Breast milk is essential
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your follow up.
I suggest you to give formula initially during day.
Give in small amount after breast milk and gradually you can increase amount and can be given anytime.
Hope this helps.
Take care..
