Suggest Tests To Determine The Salivary Flow Rate Regarding Gum Issues
Stimulated salivary flow test
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for reply.
The query posted by you presently doesnot elaborate your problem. But after reading the medical history I found that you wanted to know in detail about the various tests to be conducted, based upon the previous discussions.
Therefore please note that there are two tests to determine the salivary flow rate.
1.Stimulated salivary flow test- in which paraffin and citric acid are mainly used to stimulate the salivary flow.
2.Non stimulated salivary flow - in which there is absence of stimulus.
In both the cases saliva is collected by passive drooling in a graded balance and then measured.
The normal non stimulated salivary flow rate ranges between 0.3 to 0.5ml/min.
the rates lesser than 0.10 to 0.01ml/min is considered hyposalivation or less salivary flow.
This can lead to burning mouth syndrome, dryness in the mouth, dental caries(decay) and taste disturbances too, as in your case.
Therefore please meet an oral pathologist, who is a dentist dealing with such issues and get this test done.
This will help you to understand your salivary flow rate in your mouth.Based upon that artificial salivary substitutes can be given. As advised earlier keep yourself hydrated by taking plenty of fluids.
Hope I have given you detail answer.
For any further doubts, please let me know.
Thanks.
Take care.
Thanks for your reply. I have attached CBC blood report.
Request your advice for medicine if required to be taken as per report attached.
