Suggest The Ideal Dosage For Synthroid Takne For Hashimoto's Disease
Repeat thyroid profile to decide the dose
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Generally once a physician recommends a thyroid replacement therapy he would not be sure about the right dose hence would order a repeat Thyroid test after 4 weeks especially T4 and TSH to understand the right dose. He can titrate the dose according to decreasing TSH level and symptoms. Symptoms should start getting better in a XXXXXXX of one week. If the sypmtoms are not bettered they can increase the dose from 0.025mg to 0.05 mg and repeat the test after 30 days of increase.
So would like to understand if the symptoms are better off with Synthroid or not?
What is the result of repeat Thyroid test?
So what I mean to say is there is no particular standard dose for particular set of symptoms, however 1.6 microgram/kg body weight is a full replacement dose, the dose can be changed with the duration of hypothyroidism.
Hope this helps you to know how the replacement therapy is done.
Thank you for the speedy answer. I haven't felt any different since starting the madication over two months ago. The results of my thyroid tests last week came back normal. My doctor said that although the thyroid is functionning normally because the thyroid antibodies are high I have to keep taking synthroid as it is the treatment for hashimoto.
Thank you.
If the TPO antibodies are high the dose increases gradually
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
If you have not better with the medication you should continue same dose for 4 weeks and repeat the thyroid test again.
If the TPO antibodies are high that means the antibodies are destroying the active thyroid tissue quickly, this means the replacement therapy is going to increase as the days/years goes by.
Keep following up with the Thyroid function and your treating doctor.
