Suggest The Ideal Dosage For Thyronorm Taken For Thyroid During Pregnancy
Question: Dear Doctor,
My wife had hypothyroid problem. She is 24 years 56 kg. Six month before she had TSH level 20+ and she prescribed Thyronorm 100 mg for 3 months and routine check of t4 and TSH levels. After 3 months her TSH level had come down to 1.59 ulU/mL then doctor has changed the dose to Thyronorm 75 mg. Now She got pregnant (last week) and i did routine check up of T4 and TSH levels and found that the TSH has increased up to 8.25 . Currently i am out of station and my wife could not go and meet the doctor so i would like to know whether she continue with Thyronorm 75 mg or she should change dose to Thyronorm 100 mg ? will this affect to her pregnancy if delayed to consult with the doctor maximum 7 -10 days ?

Thyroid dose needs to be adjusted
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
good day
Iam Dr srilatha Gynecologist
I have gone through your query and I understand your concern.
Thyroid hormone is very importnat hormone for growth of baby.
During pregnancy TSH level should be kept below 2.5.
Usually the dose of thyroxin hormone need to increased 30-40% during pregnancy.
I suggest you to increase the dose of thyroxin to 100mcg and need to see your doctor for further dose changes.
Start calcium supplimentation along with vit D.
Hope this satisfies your query.
Feel free to discuss further

thanks maam is there anything that i need to concern about ?
Brief Answer:
TSH levels need to be monitored at regular intervals
Detailed Answer:
Hi there,good day.
I understand your concern.
The thyroid levels should be checked every 6-8 weeks regularly to monitor the thyroid function.
As I explained you in previous query the prepregnancy dose might be changed upto 25-50%.
The thyroid hormone level should be checked after 1 month of changing the dose.
Nothing to worry.Once thyroid levels are under normal limits the growth of fetus will be under normal limits.
Intake of 200mcg of iodine per day is required during the pregnancy for optimum thyroid function.
Also take eltroxin early morning and intake should not coincide with prenatals.
There should be at least a gap of 2-3 hours.
Avoid stress and relax.
Hope this satisfies your query.
Feel free to discuss further.
