Hi. great. thanks.
ok. i am only on the drug Zyprexa. i am on 8,75 mg oral pill dose per day.
i have talked to two psychiatrists and they both say its ok to lower my dose by 2,5 mg in my next step of lowering my dose.
i am working on quitting Zyprexa.
my plan is to lower my dose of Zyprexa by 2,5 mg tonight.
Zyprexa is the only drug i am on now.
around 9 months ago. i was lowering my dose too... and i went under "100%" dose of Zyprexa and then my body started adjusting to not being completely on Zyprexa so i started sleeping alot less and felt better and i think i felt a little like alot was happening inside my body.
it went like that for around 3 days and then i started to sleep less and less until i couldnt fall asleep after being awake for over 24 hours. (i quitted Zypadhera 210 mg needle injections instantly.)
then when i couldnt fall asleep for so long i decided to up my dose enough so i could definitely fall asleep. so i took 10 mg of Zyprexa in oral pill form. (changed from needle injections to oral pills)
after that i tried to sleep again and got very scary "shocks" in my body... the shocks were two or tree and lasted for like 1 second each. the shocks were like my cells were being pressed together or something... these shocked seemed dangerous.
i felt normal few seconds after the shocks.
and fell asleep like 30 minutes after i took the 10 mg.
now i want a psychiatrist-approved-plan if i cant fall asleep after this 2,5 mg reduction that i am planning on doing tonight.
i live in iceland and i got a very undetailed plan from my psychiatrist in iceland. she is very very busy and has super little time for me. so i seek psychiatrist answers here also.
this is the plan that i am thinking of:
i take the drug every evening at around 23:00 (1 hour until midnight).
i think if i cant fall asleep before 7 in the morning then i would up my dose (take more of Zyprexa) by 0,625 mg (1 fourth of a 2,5 mg pill).
and then try fall asleep for 4 hours and if after 4 hours i still cant fall asleep then up my Zyprexa dose again by 0,625 mg.
then 2 hours after that if i still cant fall asleep then up my Zyprexa dose again by 0,625 mg (third time i increase my dose).
do you think this is a good plan and do you recommend this plan for me if i cant fall asleep ?
And do you know of a better plan if i cant fall asleep ?
do you know how long it is safe to stay awake after having slept normally for weeks ?
do you know why these "shocks" came ? and is there anything i can do to not let them come if i cant sleep and need to up my dose of Zyprexa ?
(when they came i think i up-ed my dose by around 6 mg in one step. so i would think that if i only up by 0,625 mg in one step then if the shocks came then they would not be nearly as powerful. do you think so too ?)
i would like you to give me somewhat detailed answer if thats ok.
sorry how long it was.
thank you very much. your assistance if very much appreciated.

Brief Answer:
Your Plan with zyprexa is appropriate
Detailed Answer:
I have gone through your details thoroughly.
Zyprexa is one of the safest psychotropic drug in the sense that it does not cause withdrawal symptoms.
But you are finding it difficult to deal with this drug.
In my experience, I have hardly seen a patient complaining of such side effects of zyprexa.
But as all inviduals are different, the drug might behave differently for everyone.
Consider your history with zyprexa, I think your plan of adjusting the dose is appropriate.
A good night's sleep of 6-8 hours daily is essential, even if you have slept well in past week.
This shock like feeling must be due sudden increase in dose of zyprexa. There is no biological explanation available for this feeling in literature as well. But if you experience these symptoms again, a low dose of Clonazepam (prescription drug) can help.
Hope this helps.
Feel free to ask further.
Thanks.

hi again.
you said this:
"This shock like feeling must be due sudden increase in dose of zyprexa."
when this shock came, then i up-ed (increased) my dose of Zyprexa by like 6 mg in one step.
next time if i cant fall asleep i am only going to raise by 0,625 mg in one step like i told you in the plan earlier.
so if the shocks would come again, do you think they would be alot less powerful because now im increasing my dose almost 10 times less in one step ?
do you think the shocks were so powerful because i increased by so many mg or do you think that did not matter in the shock ?
Thanks alot my friend.

Brief Answer:
Shocks should not occur now.
Detailed Answer:
Dear,
In my clinical practice, I increase the dose of zyprexa by 2.5mg whenever I have to consider a dose increment.
I think increasing the dose by 6mg at once would have caused these shock like feelings.
As your dose increment would now be very slow, there should be any shocks at all.
Do not worry.
Thanks.
