Brief Answer:
HAve you ever had an ultrasound done?

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Good day.
I need a bit more information. Do you have a goiter? If yes, any ultrasound done so far ?
Could you please let me know the result of your latest thyroid test ?

I presume you have hypothyroidism. People tend to gain few kilos of weight with hypothyroidism and usually that is lost once the thyroid hormone levels are corrected. Hypothyroidism can cause dryness where as hyperthyroidism cause sweating. At your age, the commonest cause of sweating is peri menopausal hot flushes.
I can only answer your question regarding the need of surgery if I know the details of ultra sound of thyroid
Regards
Binu

I do not know what a GOITER IS???? I have had an internal ultra sound done. It showed that I have fibroid tumers. One is appox 2 inches large plus I was told by my OB/GYN I have one growing through the uterous. I guess there are a few kinds. I have aching pain everyday but a sharp dagger like stab in my lower left area at least 3 times a week. I do not have a period due to an ablaion. But I have had some bleading with pain. They took blood work for menopause and it showed I am not going through this as of yet.
Yes Hypothroidism. My first reading was VERY HIGH (70.0) (They checked it several times. I was immediately put on meds and checked every 2 weeks until the number was corrected with synthroid. The weight happend so quickly I have weird streach marks on my lover belly and breasts. I had one birth and and only gained 17 lbs with zero streach marks. It is listed on my file as "abnormal weight gain". I am not looking for surgery unless absolutely last. My weight continues to rise I have gained 8 more pounds since going to my MD. Their answer is to set me up with a nutritionist. I have gone for the past 6 weeks and continue to gain. I had two hip replacements completed and am worried that it will endanger the positive results. they are now hurting and my knees are now hurting. In my 50 years I have NEVER weighed this much over weight. I am 5'7" my comfortable weight is 170 ish. I do not know what to do any longer. I need help or advise as my health is getting worse. I just need a direction to go as this route is not working. I have a daughter of 10 yrs old that I want to see get married. Please advise and give me a road.....

Brief Answer:
Please dont worry. Seek an endocrinologist's help.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Goitre is the enlargement of thyroid.

Would like to know more about the weird stretch marks which you mentioned in your belly and breasts. Are they kind of purplish wide stretch marks ? Just type in "Cushings Syndrome" in google and click images. Please compare your strecth marks with those given in that picture. If any resemblence, you may need screening for Cushings.
In fact the more i discuss about it, you may get confused.. I understand your worries and would like to help you. Please panic.

My sincere advice would be to meet an endocrinologist and they will be able to help you further to find out a solution for weight gain. General Practioners and internist doctors often may not be able to diagnose few of rare hormone disorders which cause weight gain.

Binu

Hi again and THANK YOU, I found the pics on line. My marks are similar purplish but not as dark. I dont have any on my arms. I do have the bump at the top of my back. The marks are lighter with the point at the top.
My face has become somewhat round and definitely larger by my neck and cheek area.
I sincerely want to thank you for answering my questions straight and to the point. You took your time to understand what I was saying and noted that I was and still am VERY worried. I understand my primary and internist not getting it BUT I could have been taking care of whatever this is for the last year. They are so worried about getting their money they just kept me come in for nothing.
Again, Thank you for your assistance in my health. XXXXXXX
